Who runs the system, and what does it take to join?
Two organisations
- The licensing authority for amateur radio in Kenya is the Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK).
- The organisation authorised to conduct amateur exams is the Radio Society of Kenya (RSK), for Foundation, Intermediate and Full.
Three classes
From lowest to highest:
- Foundation (beginners)
- Intermediate
- Full (the highest)
Getting in
- Eligibility: there is no restriction. Anyone who takes and passes the exam can get the Foundation licence.
- Morse code test: none of the three classes requires one.
- Duration: you keep your Foundation licence status for life, the same as the other classes.
Your responsibility
The person responsible for a licence holder's good radio conduct is the licence holder. You cannot blame a friend or a club. If something goes out on your callsign, it is on you.
You now know
- CAK is the licensing authority; RSK conducts the exams.
- The classes, lowest to highest, are Foundation, Intermediate and Full.
- Anyone who passes the exam may get a Foundation licence, no Morse test is required, and status is kept for life.
- The licence holder is responsible for their own good radio conduct.
