What a schematic diagram is, and the symbols for cells, batteries, resistors and antennas.
What you will be able to do
Say what a schematic diagram is
Explain that not every figure in a diagram is a schematic symbol
Recognise the single cell, battery, resistor, variable resistor and antenna symbols
How do I read the picture that shows how a circuit is wired?
Radio circuits are drawn as schematics. Once you know the standard symbols, a schematic reads like
a map.
What a schematic is
A Schematic diagram is a diagram that uses symbols to represent components and how they are
connected.
Not every figure in a diagram is a schematic symbol. Learn the standard symbols so you can tell
them apart from labels, arrows and other drawing marks.
The first five symbols
A single cell, a battery of cells, two styles of resistor, a variable resistor and an antenna
Single-cell battery: two parallel plates, one long and one short. The long line is the
positive (+) side.
Batteries of more cells: more pairs of plates. The tutorial shows a single, a double, a four
cell battery and one with an unknown number of cells.
Resistor: a zig-zag line or a rectangle. Both styles mean the same thing.
