What do the main words in the licence conditions actually mean?
Your licence is a legal document, and it uses a handful of words in a very exact way. The exam asks about them, so it pays to know each one. They all come from the licence conditions issued by the Communications Authority of Kenya.
Who is who
| Word | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Authority | The Authority: the Communications Authority of Kenya |
| Act | The Act: The Communications Act 1998 |
| Licensee | The Licensee: the person the Authority has authorised to install and operate an amateur radio station |
That is you, once you pass the exam and are licensed.
Your station and where it is
A Station is the radio equipment you are licensed to install and operate at one of four kinds of place:
- a specific Station Location Address,
- a Temporary Location,
- while Mobile, or
- while Maritime Mobile.
Each place has its own definition:
- Station Location Address: the location of your radio equipment as set out in your Validation Document or Certificate. This is your main address. See Station Location Address.
- Temporary Location: a location other than your Station Location Address, in Kenya, and in a fixed position. Think of a campsite or a hilltop for a weekend.
- Mobile: located in Kenya in any vehicle, as a pedestrian, or on any vessel in inland waters.
- Maritime Mobile: located on any vessel at sea.
