Where am I allowed to run my station, and what do I have to tell the Authority?
The licence says where and how your station can be operated. Start with home base and work outwards.
Your main address
Your station must be installed and operated at the Station Location Address written in your Validation Document or Certificate. That is your primary location.
Moving house
If your Station Location Address or your mailing address changes, you must give prior written notice to the Authority. "Prior" means before the change, not after.
Away from home
- Temporary Location: you may operate at a fixed position in Kenya that is not your Station Location Address, such as a campsite or a relative's house for the weekend.
- Mobile: you may operate in any vehicle, on foot with a handheld, or on a vessel in inland waters, all within Kenya.
Both are covered by your licence. Sea and sky are different, and you will see those next.
Aerials and power wires
An aerial is an antenna. If an aerial crosses above overhead power wires, or could fall on them (including electric lighting wires) or power apparatus, it must be guarded to the reasonable satisfaction of the owner of the power wire or apparatus.
So it is the power company or owner who decides whether your guarding is good enough, not you.
You now know
- Operate at your Station Location Address as written in your Validation Document or Certificate.
- Give the Authority prior written notice before changing your Station Location Address or mailing address.
- You may also operate at a Temporary Location or Mobile in Kenya.
- An aerial that could touch overhead power wires must be guarded to the reasonable satisfaction of the wire's owner.
